Cloud Engineer

As a Cloud Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and maintaining a scalable cloud infrastructure that underpins our strategic growth. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on solving complex challenges, can execute to an exceptional standard, and has the vision to strategically drive our cloud ecosystem forward. This position will also involve working closely with an interdisciplinary team of experts in machine learning and biology. The role requires collaboration to support and enhance cloud infrastructure tailored to unique challenges at the intersection of these fields. As a Cloud Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the secure, efficient, and innovative handling of large volumes of data essential to our operations. You will operate at the heart of our operations, empowering both internal and external users with a robust feature set, high availability, and exceptional performance. This is a dynamic role that blends technical excellence with strategic foresight, requiring a "jack-of-all-trades" approach to cloud engineering. The role will report into the Head Of IT. What You Will Be Doing:

Own and Optimize Cloud Infrastructure:

Design, govern, and secure the cloud environment while automating key processes to ensure scalability, resilience, and cost-efficiency. Continuously monitor and optimize cloud resource usage to minimize expenses without compromising performance or security. Data Pipeline Optimization:

Enhance the ways the team interacts with large volumes of data, implementing data engineering standards, including data versioning and recovery. Operational Excellence:

Monitor production environments for availability and system health, proactively addressing performance bottlenecks and operational issues. Performance Measurement:

Gather and analyze metrics from operating systems and applications to optimize system performance and reliability. Infrastructure Management:

Utilize tools like Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible to manage and maintain infrastructure and applications. Capacity Planning:

Participate in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning to ensure sustainable growth. Team Enablement:

Educate the team on best practices for cloud security, governance, and data handling, fostering a culture of operational excellence. Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for a seasoned and strategic Cloud Engineer who embodies the following qualifications and qualities: Required Skills and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience. Extensive experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS (GCP or Azure experience is also welcome). Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and containerization technologies like Docker. Proven ability to program with scripting languages such as Python and bash. Strong experience optimizing data pipelines and managing backends like S3. You should be passionate about organizing and manipulating data at scale! Solid understanding of dynamic resource management frameworks (e.g., Kubernetes, Mesos) and distributed storage technologies (e.g., NFS, HDFS, Ceph). Proficiency with CI/CD tools and version control systems like Git and GitHub Actions. Familiarity with Linux environments, including system, security, and network administration. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing issues. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both written and verbal. Ways to Stand Out:

Interest in healthcare, biology, or AI applications. Expertise with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or Jax. Experience with distributed computing and cluster management tools like Slurm. Prior experience in a start-up environment, demonstrating adaptability and a hands-on mindset. Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) or tools (e.g., Kubernetes).
